Acne Scars

Scars caused by acne are much more common than once believed. Most people will have acne scars that are mild. However, some will have scars that look significant. The best approach is prevention and to treat acne right away as sometimes even mild acne can cause scarring. This can minimize the risk of permanent acne scars.

Types of acne scars:
Ice pick scars - Deep pits, that are the most common and a classic sign of acne scarring.
Punched out  scars - Angular scars that usually occur on the temple and cheeks, and can be either superficial or deep. These are similar to chickenpox scars.
Shallow scars - Scars that give the skin a wave-like appearance.
Hypertrophic scars - Thickened, or keloid scars.

Non-Surgical treatment of acne scars:
1) Retin-A: It can improve your acne and help to smooth very fine acne scarring. These help by encouraging collagen production in your skin.

2) Chemical peels:
Medium and deep Chemical peels can improve overall complexion. It works best if you get a series of at least six peels, having one every 8 weeks.

3) Skin fillers:
Materials are injected into the depressed area of the scar to elevate it to the level of the normal surrounding skin. Results are temporary, lasting 3-6 months and are effective only in shallow scars.

4) Biomani scar treatment protocol:
It is a protocol that consists of utilizing microdermabrasion and certain specific chemical peels. It improve the shallow scars.

Surgical treatment of acne scars:
1) Excision of scars and skin implants.
2) Laser skin resurfacing.
