Radiesse, Restylane and Juvederm
Injections
Radiance,
Collagen, Restylane, Juvederm, Dermalogen, and Artecoll are commonly used to filling in "contour
deformities" in the skin such as acne scars and wrinkles, plump up lips, as
well as sunken facial skin.
What
is Collagen?
Injectable collagen is a liquid
made from the connective tissue of cows or pigs that is injected into and under
the skin for cosmetic purposes. Two trade names for the type derived from cows
are Zyderm and Zyplast. A new brand "Artefill" is available now.
What
is Radiance?
Radiance is a relatively new and very exciting product. It has been used
successfully in Europe for a number of years. Radiance is a creamy,
organic material that can be used as a filler for
deeper wrinkles and depressions, because it is best injected deeply under the
skin. Radiance is an ideal, interdermal alternative in that it can last
for several years. Although it may not remain completely filled out during
that time, it will continue to provide a strong cosmetic benefit.
What
is Restylane?

Restylane
is a new, progressive product that we will begin offering this summer and is
also known as Perlane and Restylane Fine Line. Restylane has been widely used
during the last two years throughout Canada and Europe with very favorable
results. It is a highly concentrated form of Hyaluronic acid. When
implanted, hyaluronic acid creates volume and shape and can, therefore, easily
treat unwanted depressions by filling in or augmenting facial lines. Restylane
is effective for up to six months after lip augmentation and up to twelve months
after facial contouring.
How
long do the effects of treatment last?
To maintain the effect, collagen injections are usually repeated periodically.
The time between treatments varies depending on the product and the part of the
face being treated. Generally, the effects of treatment last from a few months
to about a year-and-a-half. In some cases, the effects are shorter-lasting,
whereas in others they have been known to last two years or longer.
What are possible side
effects?
Some people experience temporary burning or stinging. At first, your lips may
look too full when you look in the mirror because they're swollen. This improves
within a couple of hours. Some people have allergic reactions -- rashes, hives,
or flu symptoms.
